After studying Fine Art at Manchester Art School Nancy Bridgewater Batty worked in various design studios in London, initially working as an office assistant at Emma Bridgewater, her sister’s company. She assisted the textile designer Richard Smith and then worked as a colour consultant and designer with The Paint Library. At the same time she continued painting her own designs for textiles which she then began to make into collage pictures which led to a commission for the Cath Kidston London shops.

In 2008, needing more space to raise three children, Nancy moved with her family to a farmhouse an hour from London surrounded by open fields and big skies. Here Nancy focused her creativity on transforming a somewhat unloved house and garden into a wonderful home which then led her back into her first love of painting.

In 2021, with children now grown up, the family relocated back to London where Nancy and her husband transformed another house and built a new studio at the end of the garden. Nancy’s latest works, including still life, landscape and portraits all share a freshness and clarity inspired both by her background in textiles and years living in the countryside.
